The POZ Code - A grassroots, community driven HIV+ Status Disclosure Strategy which began in The United States (NYC, NY.) back in the mid 1990's, that is politicaly correct, as well as fashionably stylish. Police, Fire Fighters and EMS Workers nationwide, we (the general public who are HIV+) WANT to help PROTECT YOU as well as ourselves and those who are HIV-negative. We are ALL in this HIV Prevention Revolution together.
For decades, the issue of HIV Status Disclosure was one of silence, confusion and doubt mainly created on the fear of hate, rejection and in some cases DEATH (murder or suicide) - that was in the 20th Century. Today, the 21st Century has opened the doors of opportunity, acceptance, communication, awareness and HOPE as HIV+ people (gay, straight, man, women, young or old) openly and willfully disclose their HIV Status to family, friends, loved ones, co workers and sex partners. Since the mid 1990's, HIV Status Disclosure for both HIV+ and HIV-negative people continues to be an acceptable behavioral change that global society has understood to be vital in stopping the spread of HIV in it's tracks. Without HIV testing and HIV Status Disclosure mankind can NOT physically break the cycle of new HIV transmissions - Serosort (HIV+ only) or Safe Sex Serosort ;(HIV+ 4 HIV+ or HIV- 4 HIV-). True, The POZ CODE is NOT for "everyone" who is HIV+, it is only for those who are comfortable and "open" enough to stand tall - to have the self confidence to help stop HIV once and for all - to let their voice be heard for those who can not. And as a result of this inner strength, we have moved forward in global HIV prevention, awareness, empowerment, communication and EDUCATION. Therefore, to disclose one's HIV Status today is now a sign of UNITY as HIV+ and HIV-negative people support eachother and their personal choice to Serosort (HIV+ only) or to Safe Sex Serosort (HIV+ 4 HIV+ or HIV- 4 HIV-). The POZ CODE allows HIV-negative people to know that those of us who are HIV+, support and defend their moral, ethical and legal right to remain HIV-negative.
How long will it be until HIV Researchers in The United States are brave enough to write Safe Sex Serosorting Grant Funding Requests for Pilot Studies and HIV Status Disclosure Research? How long will it be until the HIV Agencies, Organizations, "experts" and "professionals" empower their HIV+ clients and local communities that The POZ CODE is available?
